Research Group Soup & Seminar 2026

Hertfordshire Gardens Trust Research Group invite you to join our annual Soup & Seminar Day on Lost Gardens. The speakers will talk about their garden history research on lost gardens in Hertfordshire and how that research can be used. There will be an opportunity to buy an advance copy of Lost Gardens Of Hertfordshire.

The first speaker is Anne Rowe, our former research lead, landscape historian and co-author of Lost Gardens Of Hertfordshire, with Tom Williamson, Emeritus Professor of Landscape History at the University of East Anglia. She and Tom have a shared interest in Hertfordshire landscape history and this book is a distillation of many years of work on the county’s historic gardens, much of which involved HGT members. Bridget Howlett, our current Research Group leader will speak about Lost Urban Gardens of Hitchin. Bridget is a retired archivist and has researched the Hitchin area extensively, recently publishing William Wilshere’s Hitchin Farm and Garden 1809-1824. Kate Harwood, our Conservation lead, will explain How Research Informs Planning.

The day is free for all to attend. Please register using the Eventbrite link below for a ticket to attend and bring along something to share at the lunch table.

Price: FREE
