The first 2 weeks of this 5 week course go beyond the normal parameters for HGT courses in that they focus on the new concepts for the designed environment in diverse locations. Starting with the ideas showcased at the Festival of Britain, some inspired by the Space Age, the course will examine how these were applied in the new towns, universities, sub-urban and industrial sites. The next 2 weeks chart the influences on and careers of the most influential designers of the era, while the final lecture focuses on Plantspeople – both amateur and professional. Each of the 1 hour lectures will be fully illustrated and although united by the timeframe, will be stand-alone entities.
