Researching Historic Parks and Gardens

HGT’s Research Group traces Hertfordshire’s landscape heritage from medieval times through to the 21st Century. The work is directed by Tom Williamson, Professor of Landscape History at the University of East Anglia and the Group’s desk research and site surveys are organised by the Trust’s own Landscape Historian Anne Rowe.

We have a great group of volunteers who enjoy searching out old illustrations, maps and documents to piece together the history of their chosen sites and they regularly get together with Anne to discuss the progress of their research, sharing information and suggestions and providing mutual support and encouragement.  Recently the main focus of our research has been on sites in the Welwyn-Hatfield area but we are now starting to turn our attention to North Hertfordshire – but sites elsewhere in the county are also researched as the need or opportunity arises.

If you think you might like to join the group, do get in touch via the link below.  You will be welcomed by a very friendly and enthusiastic bunch of people and Anne will provide as much support as you want as you learn how to investigate the histories of Hertfordshire’s parks and gardens.
