The Historic Landscape of Panshanger Park Talk and Walk with Kate Harwood and Anne Rowe

June 22, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

£5

Morning talk and walk at 10.00am
Afternoon talk and walk 2.00pm

The landscape of Panshanger has been shaped by man over hundreds of years.  The illustrated talks will both cover its history and the people who shaped it, including owners like the Earls Cowper and the Desboroughs, and famous designers like Capability Brown and Humphry Repton who, in the terminology of the 18thcentury, attempted to improveon nature.  The opportunities for Panshanger in its latest guise as a Country Park for all will also be discussed.  The talks will be followed by a walk round the western end of the park, where Repton’s work can be seen, and the site of the Victorian Pleasure Grounds (including the Panshanger oak), where the surviving remains will be explained.  A shorter walk to just the Pleasure Grounds will be available to those unable to do the longer walk.
